# OpenAI Study Reveals 80% of US Workers Could See Job Tasks Affected by AI
OpenAI has released a research paper examining how large language models like GPT-4 could impact the American workforce, revealing surprisingly broad implications across nearly all occupations.
The study, titled "GPTs are GPTs: An early look at the labor market impact potential of large language models," found that approximately 80% of the U.S. workforce could have at least 10% of their work tasks affected by AI language models. More strikingly, around 19% of workers may see at least half of their tasks impacted.
The research shows that higher-wage occupations generally face more exposure to AI capabilities, challenging assumptions that automation primarily threatens lower-skilled jobs. Roles involving programming, writing, and data analysis appear particularly susceptible to AI integration.
However, the researchers emphasize that "exposure" doesn't necessarily mean job elimination.
