OpenAI Completes Staged Release of GPT-2 Language Model

OpenAI has announced the full release of GPT-2, its 774 million parameter language model, marking the completion of a cautious, staged rollout that began in February.

The company initially released only a smaller 124 million parameter version in February, followed by a medium 355 million parameter model in May. This gradual approach allowed OpenAI and research partners to study the technology's potential for both misuse and societal benefit before making the complete model publicly available.
