# OpenAI Opens Applications for 2019 Scholars Program Supporting Underrepresented Groups in AI

OpenAI announced that applications are now open for the second cohort of its OpenAI Scholars program, designed to increase diversity in artificial intelligence research.

The program offers 6-10 stipends to individuals from underrepresented groups, allowing them to study deep learning full-time for three months. Participants will receive mentorship from OpenAI researchers and are expected to complete an open-source project by the program's end.

This marks the second year of the initiative, which aims to address the lack of diversity in AI and machine learning fields. By providing financial support and expert guidance, OpenAI is removing barriers that often prevent talented individuals from underrepresented backgrounds from entering the field.

The three-month intensive format allows participants to gain practical experience in deep learning without requiring them to leave their careers permanently. The open-source
