# OpenAI Releases Gym Retro with Over 1,000 Games for AI Research
OpenAI has announced the full release of Gym Retro, a major expansion of its platform for training artificial intelligence through video games.
The update dramatically increases the number of games available to researchers, jumping from approximately 100 games (70 Atari and 30 Sega titles) to over 1,000 games spanning multiple gaming systems and emulators. This tenfold increase gives AI researchers access to a vastly more diverse testing environment.
Importantly, OpenAI is also releasing the tools that allow researchers to add new games to the platform themselves. This open approach means the library can continue growing beyond OpenAI's own contributions.
